We got this comforting recipe from Zhen of the Greedy Girl Gourmet website, and tweaked it a little to suit our Canned Abalone Standard. Thanks for sharing Zhen!
Ingredients:
- Abagold Canned Abalone Standard Can (Net Weight: 425g ; Drained Weight: 213g)
- 1 Cup White jasmine rice, rinsed
- 7 Cups Chicken broth
- 3-5 Slices Ginger
- Sesame oil
- Spring onions
- Goji Berries or Honey Date (optional, for sweetness)
Method:
- Mix the rinsed rice, ginger, abalone broth from the Canned Abalone Standard Can, chicken broth and Goji Berries or Honey Date (if you’re choosing to do so).
- Bring it to a boil over high heat. Once it reaches a boiling point, reduce the fire if needed.
- Let it simmer vigorously till cooked to your desired consistency. You may need to top up the water later. Stir it every now and then (or it will burn at the bottom of the pot.) (Cooking will take at least 30 minutes if using white rice.)
- 5-10 minutes before you switch off the fire, add the cut up abalone.
- Garnish with chopped spring onions and a pinch of white pepper will be nice but remember the taste can be very strong so less is more here.
- Ladle the porridge into your individual bowls, and drizzle sesame oil on top as a final finish.
Some tips:
If you wish to bulk up your porridge, you can also add shredded chicken (the thigh meat is less likely to overcook).
